Will not rev. I step on the gas it stalls. If I give it starting fluid it will rev strong and smooth, so I don't think its ignition. I changed fuel pump and filter. Still no improvement. Problem came on suddenly so I doubt its injectors(unlikely that 2 or more went at one time/should still run on 5 but rough). Tried another control unit also showed no improvement. Please help!

Check distributor rotor....this just happened to me today and the rotor had come loose and wasn't spinnin right.

Just take the cap off check for moisture and such and make sure the rotor is on nice and snug.

If that doesn't help check the TPS....its near the end of the fuel rail, little black box with one plug going into it, pull the plug out, check for any type of corrosion or fluid, blow on it and such, and plug it back in....

Hope this helps

It sounds like fuel if you use starting fluid and it revs as you are compensating for missing fuel. You don't say if there is the problem is when in hot or cold starting, is there no revs throughout all the torque range.

Anyway, going by the manual you need to check
- injectors
- air flow meter flap operation and resistance measures
- fuel system fuel pressure test, injector leakage and cold start valve leakage.

If you don't have a manual it is well worth the investment. I have saved alot of $'s and frustration.

Well it requires starting fluid to keep it running long enough to warm up. Once warm it will start back up on its own. Still wont rev above 2000rpms without starting fluid. I do have a manual(haynes) and have found my injectors do have continuty, the afm flap is operational and there r no leaks. Also have checked continuty on throttle valve switch and cold start valve. Thanks for your help, do you know what to do next? I've been beating this dead horse for a month. Also had a garage look at it for a month and a half. They said it was the fuel injection module. I don't know what that would be according to my manual. They told me I should consider converting to carbouration. Theyre crazy so I had it towed back home.

Put a fuel pressure gauge between the fuel filter and the fuel rail.

What is the pressure at idle?

What is the pressure at 2000 rpm?

What is the fuel pressure when you remove the vacuum line from the FPR?

If you clamp the fuel return line with the engine running what does the pressure change to?

Thanks for the suggestions. Beyond my means at this time. Don't have the tools or money to buy them. I had however tried to close off the hose to the pressure regulator with vise grips. It did not change my symptoms. I know that doesn't really cover everything you suggested but i will keep that in mind when i get paid. Thanks again.
