Every about 30-40 times (or about once every week and a half) I start my Z it idles really ruff and dies about 1-2 seconds later. I restart it and does the same thing. The only way to get it to stop is to hold the gas pedal down and move forward or back. Then it idles perfect again and I don't have the problem again for awhile. It's done this after under all conditions (stop and go, 30+ trips, sitting for a day or two, etc.). I thought it might have been the spark plugs, but I changed them and didn't change anything. Any advice would be helpfull.

Thanks,

P.S. It's not a turbo model.

My '79 ZX (2+2) has done the same in the past. I found that the fuel filter was fouled. I learned that the gas tank has some rust in it and every couple of months I have to replace the filter. I am contemplating removing and sealing the inside of the tank to see if that aleviates the problem.

I had the same problem in my 83zxt last Sep 97, and had the fuel pressure regulator replaced. In fact I may be getting the same symptoms again so I'll check the fuel filter first, it has about 25K on it now.

I replaced the Fuel filter today. As soon as I got it restarted it seems to idle and take off a little better. I'll let you guys know if this solves the problem
