My z has not been running very well lately, extremely hard to start, which is very
unusual for her. The other day she started and then just died, did not start since. I started troubleshooting using Haynes Repair manual. I do have a spark at the plugs. Started troubleshooting EFI, When i went to check injectors using a 12v 3w test lamp at the injector connector, i do not receive the control pulses as stated. The cold start valve is receiving the pulses as listed in manual, i replaced ECU no luck. I am at wits end please help.

First thing, thanks for replying so quickly. I do not have a fuel pressure gauge, but I
took the hose off after the fuel filter and had my wife turn engine over, fuel did come
out of the line. When I turn the key I hear a click sound at the fuel pump. Does that
necessarily mean it's working as the manual suggests? I will go out and get a new filter and reply to you if it helps.. Thanks

I took your advise and replace the fuel filter. Unfortunatly the vehicle still doesn't start. I am going to try to borrow a fuel testing gauge and try to test it tomorrow. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know. I have tried most eveything I can think of. Thanks, Ozzie

Check the head temp. sensor on passanger side of engine between cyl.5&6 I think. Mine had the same problem. I had fuel coming out when I disconnected the fuel line, and my wife turned the ignition on. I had spark also. But not matter how much I tried it wouldn't start or even fire. It turned out to be the head temp. sensor was unplugged. Plugged it in and it started right up.

Thanks, for response, I called local parts stores and they stated that the regulator must be bought at the Nissan dealer. I really needed my car for Monday morning. I guess I am out of luck. I live on Fort Lewis, Washington and would like to see if anyone has a regulator that i could borrow just to test out mine. I will keep you posted on my outcome.

Thanks for your input, I checked the head temp and all other sensors to make sure they were plugged in, still no luck. I live at Fort Lewis Washington, and am trying to find someone that knows where there is a Z that I might swap parts out from. Going to Parts store is getting very expensive. Thanks again

Well Zrex and ozzie, I'm out in Gig Harbor, done alot of work on my 79zx out here, alot of trouble shooting.
My air regulator is bad, I've got it plugged off, and my z still starts fine even in the cold snap we had out here.
Just idles at a lower speed until it's warm.
If I can help E-mail me at
[email protected]
I'm just across the narrows bridge.
