hello guys!

Question for you all.. I just bought an 81 ZX N/A with 9000 miles on it and the only two things i can find wrong were the power antenna and the voice warning module...Here are the questions: My antenna was unplugged(i found out) but in the UP position when i bought it, when i found that it was unplugged in the rear, i plugged it in and it went DOWN, but now wont go UP with the radio...Whats the problem?? Does the antenna go on with the POWER button on the radio, OR do you have to push the little button above in the middle?

Second question: Does my 81 HAVE a voice warning system? I dont remember what years had them and which did not..Did they all??

Thanks again in advance for the help!

I have an '81ZX, but had one wheel in the grave when I bought it.

With mine, the power antenna went up halfway when you turned the radio on, and when I pressed the antenna button it went up the rest of the way!

I think the voice module only came with the '82-83 ZX's, not the '79-81.

Remove your antenna plug and get a 20 foot wire and connect it to a 12 volt source like to your battery or something, if you use external power you will need to connect a groung to the antenna mounting bracket. At the end of the plug going to the antenna you will have 4 wires, you may need to trim back some of the protective tubing to identify the wire colors.
With the hot 12 tap the blue/red and it should go full up.
Now tap the yellow white and it should go down.
If you tap the Blue/White it will go up half way.
The black wire is ground and is connected to the frame so don’t worry about this when testing. If these functions do not go like I said your problem is in the antenna control module and that’s another never-ending story.

Be sure to tell me how it goes so if need be we could trouble shot the antenna control module.
