just wondering if anyone has put 280 tail lights into a 240z...i just picked up a set of european tail lights from the local pick n pull and wanted to put it on my car...ive seen it done many times in japan just wondering what i need to do to swap the parts, thanks for your information...mike

Hacking Abortionist!
Nope, you got to be some sort of hacking abortionist to cut up the rear valence to clearance the early tail light mounting panel (remember YO, the reverse lights are separate in 280 lights...)
Why do I phrase it like this? Because some prior owner (Let's just call him 'Pedro') of my 71 Fairlady Z hacked the backend all to pieces fitting in US-SPEC tail lights into it! Now I have a rear clip from another 71 that I have to graft onto the car to fix his other 'Pedrizing' efforts...
It most definately is NOT a bolt in proposition, there is cutting involved, as well as wiring mods...

hey thanks tony for the info i think i emailed you long before about stuff. im not to worried about cuttin up my car or re-wiring...not a prob. i have the 71 gunmetal 240z with black zg flares on zdriver.com in the rides section...just look for "DATTO" right now its just a thought, i picked up the euro tails for a few bucks...didnt want to spend 200 plus for a pair 240z euros. well we will see what happens...thanks

Euro's are one thing...
I mean, they're euros! But MY GOD, hacking the rear of a 71 Fairlady Z to install Plain-Jane all-red 280Z tail lights! What kind of diseased individual partakes in that peculiar form of automotive mutilation?
If they were Euros, that's one thing, that's probably worth it. But for Stock 280 tail lights. I wish I could find him. Then with a pliers I'd slooowly...

yeah i can sell em and get the 240 euros. we'll see, i like being different. ive done so many mods to my car but still looks classy and tough. i dont think it will hurt to cut a bit in the rear. i already put holes in my fenders because of the ZG flares and the fender mirrors. ...thanks 280zone for the idea...ill put it in consideration if i decide to sell em.

its just a car, i already put so my holes in my car. its not like its a perfect fairlady anyway. its not like im putting corvette tail lights on the rear or something. its still datsun tail lights and are the real euros with the yellow lens. im not murdering the car...just making it unique here in california. i like how they fix up z's in japan and thats the style i go for, you can see a lot of the 240z's out there carry the 280z tail lights and thats what i wanted to do.

Yeh, I'd say go for it, there are so many 240's out there, why not!?! I have a set of 280 Euros already, or I't trade you even up for one of the 3 remaining sets of 240 Euros' I have (but then I have that many 240's sooooo.....)
By stating Euros are one thing, I was stating that was a positive improvement for the car.
Now if you were inquiring about putting US Spec 280 lenses into the rear of your 240...
How about some 73 Skyline taillights? With the Crystal Lenses?
