i have a 77 280z and wanted to get rid of the crash bumpers, but wanted to get the smaller fiber glass bumpers like on the 240's. i have seen a 280 with the fiberglass bumpers that motorsport auto supplies but was not sure if the fittings supplied would fit on mine, or if i would have to find new ones. any suggestions? for an example of what im talking about, "walker morgan's" 280 is the set up im looking for. check here.... http://www.eng.fsu.edu/~jthagard/otherzs/walker/heatedpassion.html

thanx

I just took mine off and filled the holes in the rear so the valance is smooth and rounded all the way down and filled the bellows/side rubber indentations in the front so it has a fierce profile. Looks awsome and raw.

It is pretty easy to modify the existing bumper mount/shock absorbers to mount the 260 or 240 bumpers. It involves letting the air out and compressing them. Search the archives for Rob Sime and you will find directions.

If you take off the crash bumpers and drive your Z much on the street be aware any minor impact on the front of the car will probably result in some kind of damage($$). Look how many regularly driven 240's there are with creased hoods and cracked grills.

Hitting things...

That's funny, the last time I posted about removing my bumpers someone issued me a warning about damaging the body by--this is his words--"tagging things"! Maybe I am too old for this kind of car, but I'm sorry folks, I don't go around hitting things with my car. Here I was just worried about a fix-it ticket.

Cliff,
I have a 78Z and was looking in the history reguarding changing bumpers to 240Z
bumpers and ran across your comments. Did you get the upgrade done?
And what parts did you need and what did it cost.
I do thank you for your comments,
