Any one out there no why my z stays idling to high? what knocks revs back down after it warms up? I've tried adjusting everything. Also where can I find good wiring diagram and hose diagrams? Hayne's book s----s........Chilton's also limited.

Usually a vacuum leak is what does this. Check the engine very
closely and look for old, potentially damaged gaskets. They can
be awfully hard to find sometimes but once you cut down the extra
air intake it will idle like a dream.

There are 3 possibilities you can try:

1. a vacumn leak. Change all vacumn lines. They don't cost that much and they probably need it and all these years.

2. The air regulator is not closing. The air regulator is located on top of the manifold with two 1/2 inch hoses going to it. To check air regulator let the engine warmup and squeeze off one of the hoses. If the idle drops then that is your problem.

3. The BCDD (Boost Control Deacceleration Device) . This device will let the idle come down slowly when you shift and slowdown. This device is under the maniflod about halfway back. I don't know if yours has a wire or vacumn line going to it but disconnect it and if the idle lowers then that is your problem.

Hope this helps you out.
