Does anyone know what the amount of force is coorect for a properly working Rack and Pinion? Mine is out of the car and it seem pretty stiff andseems to grind when I move it back and forth. I can use a spring scale of my naibors.

From the factory manual:
Upon completion of gear assembly measure the torque required to keep pinion rack in motion. Re-adjust retainer adjusting screw as necessary to obtain proper torque shown in the following chart.
Pinion(rotary torque): (0-20kg/cm)(0-17in/lb)
Rack(force to pull): (14-17kg)(31-37lb)
Note: Both parts should move smoothly over their entire travel.

Hey while your in there, you should replace your bushings with urethane.
