alrighty.... I have determined that the slave needs rebuilding. My question is - The thing that sticks out of the trans to engage the clutch.... (oh, what two years of auto mechanics can teach you!)... it isn't supposed to move freely is it? It doesn't move side to side or anything, but it does move with no problem from front to back... doesn't sound or feel like it's touching anything or doing anything. Hmmmm......

Clutch fork!
Requires too much force to push clutch in by hand. It should have free play at lever end moving towards front of car. Clutch fork is held by a spring clip so that it pivots on a ball anchored to the bell housing. Youll see this if you pull off the clutch fork boot. The spring is PITA to get in place even w/ tranny off car, so be carefull not to mess this up while manipulating the fork.
