In the center console of my 71 240Z AT, I have the choke handle plate with the choke mechanism below, it also has the rear windowe defog switch and an opening for the optional fog lamps switch.

Does anyone know what the slot to the right of the choke handle was for? Was it originally to have two choke handles for the two carburators?

And while we're at it, I've been looking for the fog lamp switch so I can install some aftermarket fog lamps, has anyone seen one of these or have one for sale?

The other slot was for a throttle cable to help keep the engine running at a higher RPM when it was cold. I believe it was latter outlawed by the auto industry as beeing un-safe. It was still used in other countries.

Switch in the console was not for the fog lights. RST is correct in his placement of the foglamp switch above the lighter in hte dash.
The console hole is for the Japan-market running lamp switch. You could turn the parking lamps on separately, left or right, with this switch, depending on what side of the vehicle was exposed to traffic.
Curiously, California VC still is written in that manner, stating that the "exposed to traffic" side of the vehicle have it's parking lights illuminated while parked upon hte roadway...

Wow, the more you read the more you learn, and this forum is outstanding.

As soon as I read Zspeed's response about the throttle cable, I remembered some of the SEAT's (Spanish version of a FIAT) having that throttle cable, come to think of it some of the early Renault's did to. Since I was only 12 at the time we lived in Spain I was more interested in how "Cool" a car was and not with what went where.

Thank You Zspeed.

Now both RST and Tony D have answered about the Fog / Running Lamp switches, and here is a second situation I have.

Above my Hazard Switch, (which by the way for a 71 not sure if it should be the Toggle Switch or the Pull Out Green Faced Rubber Knob) I have ... a Cigarette Lighter. A prior owner, had installed an after market radio and installed the antenna up / down switch in the round hole on the fuse cover right above the ash tray.

Now things get a little more complex:

Since I'm trying to return the car, somewhat to original, (not going for show room, just a clean original interior), would anyone out there take the time to either describe the location of the accessories on the console, and / or send a picture that would detail that?

By the way Excellent Post Tony D! That's a bit of automotive history that had eluded me. Would love to find the switch to do that with my car.

Thanks Guys
