Hi all,
We started a restoration of our '70 240z we've held onto and that has been sitting a long time. The engine and trans are currently pulled for refurb and we're having trouble finding some guidance on potential upgrades/options. We have a L28 block and E88 heads. Looking to make around 250 crank hp. Can anyone recommend a good combination of cam, displacement options, carbs ect for this ballpark power range that work well together? Or recommend someone to reach out to? Any suggestions or advice would be great while we continue to try to research. Thanks in advance.

best bang for your buck is to go turbo. are you looking to stick with carbs?
which L28 block do you have? obviously not the engine that originally came in the car. if you have the late model F54 block (81-83zx non-turbo) you can pair it with an N42 head. that gives you the high compression combo with flattops.
Datsun Z Garage- ZCAR Performance Mods for L-Series can tell you all about it and everything else related to getting good power from these engines.

good luck

I had Rebello Racing build a motor for my restoration. They paired an L28 block, bored out for a 3ltr displacement, to my original '72 E88 head for a bit more compression. The internal components used with a set of 3 dual Mikunis, built for me by Mike Malone of Seaside, CA gave me a 3012cc engine producing 315 hp on their dyno. Give Dave a call at Rebello as I'm sure he'd sell you what you would need. He can also provide what you would need if you decided to go the fuel injection route. I chose to stay with the carbs to avoid complications. My 911 fuel injection system is enough for me to deal with.
