1376 Views 13 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  grim3ordnance
i'm seeing a rebuilt trans on ebay for 750 bucks, been combing the want ads here as well -- any tips on a good source for a 5 speed to fit my 76 280Z appreciated.....

JY's would be the cheapest, look for a 79-81. 82-83 with the turbo had the BW t-5 which requires some modification to fit into an S30 (the tranny mount).
Skip the turbo ZX tranny and get the non-turbo version 80-83. I personally like the 80 best.
JY's? wheres that? link? thanks!

edit: duh you mean teh junkyard... haha
Junk yards, Pick a part, whatever you call em
There are people selling good parts right here on this site.
$750 ouch way to much in my opinion.

60 day or 6,000 miles warranty.

They rebuilt my 5-speed for my 76 280Z in March 2005. They also sell 5-speeds.

thanks i'm on hold with them now-- but teh area code is 916, not 919, for future reference.

edit: they just quoted me $750 plus shipping for a "datsun 5 speed" that they could not tell me much about as far as which transmission it really is.
I don't know where you are located, but I have an engine and 5 speed transmission out of a '79 that I'm trying to get rid of for cheap. The tranny works fine, and the engine should be good with the usual clean/tune up stuff.

I'm in Knoxville, TN.

That's what I'm talking about!
I've given away spare trannies that I no longer needed. Now if only some one would donate a CLSD to me..
Sure, I'll donate it to you. Freshly rebuilt by JeffP, and with a spare set of seals as well.

As soon as the donation of $1000US reaches me, I'll donate the CLSD

Skittle, really, buckle down and get an OBX ATB. You won't be sorry. No clutch packs to wear out. (And trust me, if you apply power around corners and don't have it shimmed to almost live axle response, they WILL wear out!)
hey i just put a 5 speed in my 76. i got it from a friend of mine but if your anywhere near texas i would suggest Jerrys all Z's in fort worth. the man has tons and tons of Z car crap. i also know of a guy who has another one he would probably let go for about 150 bucks. you might wanna have it rebuilt, or just freshened up but thats up to you. i would also suggest getting a new clutch and flywheel while your at it and swap your rear main seal unless your car doesnt leak at all.
