Can anyone enlighten me with the possible conversion of my 72Z from the original R180 3:36 to a R180 4:11 that comes from a 4X4 pick-up. I would like to keep the current configuration & weight (mustache bar, haft shaft, drive shaft). I recently purchased a 83ZX so I could use the complete drive train for my Z, the ZX was configured with an R180!!! I taught it would be an R180 3:90 but it’s a 3:56. I know that I could use the R200 4:11 from a 200sx turbo but I still have the same problem with changing a bunch of stuff.
Thanks
Robert

I posted the same query elsewhrere and got little response except that they didn't think the Datsun 720 P/U had a Posi Diff, and that you shouldn't have to swap internals but the whole unit should fit. I guess you read this from the Grassroots Racing, Boneyard article?

I read on a re-print from ZCar magazine that all 200SX's that had R180's )and I know some had R180's because I see them at the junkyard all the time) had 4.11's (Of course, the R200 in the '85-86 200SX Turbo also had a 4.11 (very rare).

I too would like a 4.11. However, I hestitate to go with a R180, because I plan to do some engine mods to take me up to 180+ H.P. and have heard that the R180 is not rugged enough to hold up.
