Does anybody know what it would take to put a newer V6 turbo in a '76 280z ?
Maybe I'm just dreamin', but the prospect of a 2800 lb. car with 300 horses under the hood really gets me going. Can it be done? I want the car to handle the same, which is why I haven't seriously considered the V8 swap. The whole charm of the Zcars for me, and the reason I love to drive mine is that it's so light and agile... I don't want to sacrifice that. Do I need a 5 speed?

The L28 can easily handle 300hp with a turbo, so you're wasting your time with the v6. Ask around. For the same cost without modification to engine bay.

There is an article on a '76 280Z w/a VG30DETT motor in it in one of the back issues of Z-Car mag. The owner of the car is Greg Dupree and he used to work at a shop in the L.A. area. It would be to your benefit to give him a call. The phone # is in that issue of Z-Car. I don't have the mag w/me or I would post that. Sorry I can't help you more!!! BTW, Greg's car is an automatic and it runs 11's in the quarter mile. He also uses it to tow his jet ski. Cool!!! He also claims he gets 30mpg on the highway. Good luck!!!

I might be thinking of the same car as the one just mentioned, but there was also an article in Sport Compact Car about 9 months ago or so wherein someone installed a V6 from a 300ZX into a '76 280Z. It's been awhile since I saw the article, but I recall that the guy who did it did a beautiful job. An added benefit: the weight of the repowered Z was exactly 50/50 on the front and back tires. Pick up an issue of SCC and call them for a back issue for more info.

We are the Oregon distributor for Z CAR MAG, and
have several back issues of the 300zx tt swap. If anyone wants to buy back issues, type or call.
