Hi all,

I have a 1980 tranny i will be using on my 240z, with the 83 motor. I was wondering which rearend to use 3.9 or 4.11? I want good pickup since the z's are somewhat dogs on the power in the bottom rpm's. I am set on one of these, and i figgure the 4.11 will give me great launch, and do fine on the highway. does anybody have a 4.11 or 3.9 for sale, at a more decent price than the 150-300 iv'e been seeing. Its a shame that everyone rips eachother off so bad. I can usually find them in the junk yards, but haven't gone lately.

4.11 and 3.90 isn't that big of difference. With an oil cooler, you should be okay with 4.11. 80mph should be about 3500rpm.

gunny you should ask i have had both these combos in the last 9 mo but it also depends on tire diameter with a oe diameter tire which is ruffly 24.8 to 25.0 the 3.90 will put you at 3000 at 70 mph and that 80 tranny has great 1st and 2nd your car should realy move with the 4.11 it will realy jump but youll hate it on the freeway i switched to a 83 tranny with a taller 5th and it brought my rpm down to 2500 at 70 but the 1st and 2nd were taller and i hated it so i switched to a 4.11 and im back to 3-3100 at 70 but the 1st and 2nd were still better with the 79 tranny and im in a zx lot heavyier car i know a guy with 390 and the early 5spd in a 71 240 w/ at stock l-28 and his car huals ass hope this helps
