Hi there, as per an earlier post, my transmission ran into some issues, which I have found to be because of a blown out tail housing on the transmission. As it is, 280zx transmission tail housings are pretty difficult to find (who’d have guessed?), so I was planning on buying a whole transmission and just swapping it in.
However, I was wondering what the differences were between the 280zx and 240/260/280z tail housings, as I know the transmissions themselves are interchangeable on the L series engines. If I could buy an older z transmission and just take the housing off that would make my life a lot easier.

Thanks for the help.

FYI, there are 3 different tail shaft housings for the 280zx and they're not interchangeable with each other. The 4 speed, the early 5 speed with the matte finish on the tail shaft housing (like the finish on the 4 speed) and the 5 speed with the reverse lock out which is a smooth finish on the tail shaft housing.
