280zx Idle Speed

Hey I recently purchased an 81 280zx n/a 5spd and was wondering what the idle speed should be? It idles right around 1000 rpm and thought that seems kinda high (maybe im just used to old school carb'd V8's). Also, once I've driven it, if I restart it within a few minutes it'll idle real rough and errratically for a few mins then smooth back out, any thoughts? Oh and just the other night my headlights started flickering and then went off, used my brights for awhile and was able to get lows back on for a few mins, repeat. Thinking alternators ok because nothing else was affected, anyone ever experience anything like that?

a lot of times people selling a zx will turn the idle up when selling it to get a good start up to Mask problems. Seen it several times, and youll see people post that you have vacuum leaks, and what 30 yr old car unrestored doesnt. Vapor lock will also Make the car start hard but usually its a bad connection or Bad part. the hard start when the car is warm is a temp related problem. The ecu isnt getting correct temp info. by now your car needs needs attention at the temp sensors, thermotime switch, Aux air regulator, and the electrical connection needs to be cleaned by now. Start by cleaning the connections on the thermostat housing. If its a 5 speed you should idle 700 rpm When warm. the sticker on the hood will tell you..I think, its a gold sticker that has timing info.
www.xenons130.com is where you can go for a free factory manual. If the ac is on, the F.I.C.D. (fast idle control device) will boost the idle up to 1000.
