your best bet locally is the salvage yards. chances are they may still have a car or two left. grab a tranny from one.

This is so common that I've made it a policy: when a new member appears and within minutes or hours says some variation of "My buddy has the part, contact him at XYZ..." I ban them. Period. I probably have to do this three times a week. In some cases I find that the newcomer has already responded to two or three threads, and their response is the same in every thread, and all for different parts. Clearly a scam.
I've made this policy a sticky at the top of the WTB forum, although no one ever reads it.
If the offer is from someone who has been a member a year or longer, or if I know from their activity that they are a real member, I consider the parts offered likely to be genuine. In a very, very few cases when the poster is a newcomer but there are photos or enough of a story that it seems possible that the parts offer is genuine (maybe one in 10) I'll leave the post but add a warning noting that the post has signs of a scam.
I usually check this forum at least twice a day, and in many cases I ban the poster before anyone else sees the post. I think most members don't know how often this occurs.
I've been seeing this pattern for years both as a member and moderator.
