Hi -

I just bought myself a 1973Z, and it has been suggested that I check the valve timing. After removing the valve cover, I guess you have to set the motor to TDC, then check some allignment marks of some sort? Where can I get information on this? The car has 151K miles on it. Perhaps I should just change the timing chain and gear all together?

AND even a Haynes Manual will have the valve timing mark information that you are looking for. You will need that information to change the gear and chain (AND tensioner AND guides) anyway. And don't forget to get or make a chain/ tensioner block to keep yourself from losing tension on the chain when you decide to adjust the valve timing. btw it's TDC on #1 on the COMPRESSION stroke, both valves closed.
