The trick to maintaining emissions compliance here is, IMO, to leave the current emissions system alone and work around it by some tuning tricks with an aftermarket engine control system. One of the interesting requirements of this is that the turbo should be mounted DOWNSTREAM of the cat -- you can draw your own conclusions about where this puts the turbo machinery and intercoolers. I was inspired to look into trying this by Corky Bell's NSX project. This is gonna be much more fun than just adapting the stock turbo setup.
The car is going to have to face CARB adjutication in a few years.
