My car has only 37,000 miles. At about 30,000 miles, the transmission failed. The planetary gears got eaton up. I went to the local nissan dealership and they charge $3,000. This made me upset but what can you do. Anyway, I was at a different Nissan talking with some sales people. They said there was a recall on these cars because of transmission problems. The dealership that I went to never told me this. Is this true about the recall? If so WHO or WHAT can I do to get my money Back?

Just in case there is no recall, for future reference, most trans shops will completely rebuild an auto for $700-$1000 and are specialists in AT work.Even though the z is high tech, automatics have not really changed in years overall so most shops would be fine, and either way they will give you a warranty on the rebuild.
I have a friend that works for a new car dealership(i better not say who)and he said they contract automatic work out to other shops and the customer ends up paying a lot and the dealership gets the trans work done for even less than the normal $700-$1000.
I had to replace an automatic on a 89 240 I had a couple years ago and I bought a used one at a junk yard for $450 and $125 to install and they gave me a 6 month guarantee.I have heard but may be wrong, but the 240 may use the exact same auto as the Z,at least I know the ratios are exact.
