Hello. I was driving at about 50mph on a small highway when I let off the gas for about 3 seconds. When I put my foot back on the pedal, the car lost all power, and I coasted to a stop. Had to tow it back to my house.

Car wont run. When I try to start it, it will fire right up, idle for about a second, and then die.

What I tried:
Check fuel pump flow - normal
Check spark plugs - normal
Check spark coil - normal
Check fuel filter - 1 month old
Check idle adjust - normal
Check timing chain - not broken
Check plug wires for spark - good
Disconnect cold-start inj. - Car wont fire up at all
Reconnect cold-start inj. - Car starts but dies after 1 sec.

All fluid levels are topped off, most of them changed in the past 30 days.

WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG?????

Sounds to me like you're not getting any fuel. Are you absolutely
sure the fuel pump is running when the engine fires? There is a
switch in the AFM that allows the fuel pump to come on only
when the flap opens.

Hope this helps...ross

Check Your TPS connector

Mine did this and it was the TPS connector. It was dirty and corroded. The TPS is the sensor below the throttle body.

This happened to my 77Z. It turned out that the spring that returns the flap in the AFM had let go, so that the F. I. flooded out the engine immediately. Fixed the spring and it solved the problem. Hope that helps.

Check your fuel pressure. Get a gauge and install it in line between your fuel filter on the passenger side fender well and the engine. You should have about 12 of hose there. I believe it is 5/16 ID. Your fuel pressure should be 36.3 psi. If you are within a couple psi of that mark you are probably OK on fuel. Check it prior to cranking the engine and then as it starts. If it drops off you have either a bad fuel pump or a bad fuel pressure regulator - more likely the pump. You might also have some corrosion inside the tank that covers the suction side of the pump.
You can also pinch off the hose on the return side of the fuel pressure regulator with a pair of vise grips and see if that helps. It will keep you running if it is the regulator.
