My '83 ZXT has just under 190k miles on it, the engine has never been rebuilt. I don't
pamper my Z at all. It is my daily comuter with a very short distance to go, I do try to take it out on the mountain highway just to blow the gunk out of the pipes every once in a while. I was wondering if anyone knew the average life expectancy of these engines (L28ET). I am aware that how you treat it will change the lifespan - but I was looking just for an average -what to expect type thing-.

Thank you for the response

I wasn't sure what I could expect from the car - I have an '88 Fiero that practically needs a rebuild every 1000 miles. I new the Z's were (are) a very well built machine, but once again wasn't sure what I can expect.
Thanks again for the info

Re: Thank you for the response

The weak points on these motors seem to be the cooling system, valve train, and the head gasket. My 78 has 185k original but the head gasket is starting to leak. As long as the motor never gets too hot, you keep clean oil in it, never let it ping, and keep the valves adjusted, it should last several 100k.
