I don't know the specifics on your car, but I have a 240 that is stripped and gutted with a 280 flat top with a e88 head and 480 lift 284 duratiion cam, 2.5" exhaust w/ header and 2 chamber flomaster, Crane ignition box and coil, electric fuel pump and regulator set at 5 psi. and the carbs are fully rebuilt 71' models with the 260 intake manifold. I am running rich at idle, but with the carbs fully richened I am running scarry lean on mid and top end revs. I know I need different needles, but I don't know where to but them and what size to get. I can still smoke the tires thru first second and third, with a nice chirp in fourth on my T5 with spooled 3:90 dif, but i can feel the power drifting away as the rpm's incline. Please let me know what you have done to your SU's to get them to run at optimum levels. In the next couple of months I will be switching to a shaved, welded and fully ported and polished and gasket matched E31 head, with larger valves and AL keepers and valve spring hats and a more agressive dual duration cam, but before I do this I need to find out what it will take to get my E88 running good. Please help me out here, as you seem to be quite an wxpert in this area, and it would make me so happy if you could give me any sujestions with my current setup.
Thankyou for your time,

you may want to try the SM needles first.

If I keep my dual carb Z I am going to install a O2 sensor into 2 parts of my header, so I can see how my carbs are running all the way up to redline.

There are a billion needle grinds out there, it will take some time to find the one that is perfect for your engine.

Re:

I am running the SM fuel needles.
As far as mods go try filing the throttle shaft down and smoothing any sharp leading edges down in the carb throat and bridge area. Run the dual K&N air filters and of course make sure your carbs are perfectly synchronized.

Later,norm
