how do you idenify a 10th anniversarry 280zx without the tag in the console our the 2 tone paint

Only 3000 of these cars were produced. 2,500 were painted Gold and
Black, while 500 were painted Red and Black. The basis for this special
edition was the 1980 280ZX GL package. They were all then equipped with
a Special Edition Option Package, which included the following:

Maple Leaf emblem on Dash Plaque)

2. Two Tone Paint (Gold/Black or Red/Black)

3. Gold Hood Emblem & gold stripe on black hood

6. Commemorative Wreath Decals On Lower Front Fenders, Hatch
and Owners Manual

7. Goodyear Wingfoot Tires

8. Five Speed (with new style shift knob) or A/T

9. Tan or Burgundy Leather Seats

10. Surround Sound Stereo System (AM/FM Radio, Cassette Tape
Player (with special tape) & Booster))

11. Automatic Temperature Control

12. Black Out Exterior Trim Package

13. Tinted Windshield

14. Tinted T-bar roof

15. Auto temperature control air conditioner

Besides the two tone paint, decals, and deash emblem the AE is the same as any other 280ZX. so there is no other ways to physicaly distiquish them from the regular ZXs. They might be a differencein the vin #'s.

The vin numbers are the best way to tell. For example, two 10 anniversary cars I found, vin numbers
HS130-223016
HS130-225414
The vin numbers will be in this fashion. If you look at the standard zx car they are a totally different number. There will be a number like
KHLG S130 JAVBC as you can see the numbers are different and that will determine exactly if it is a 10th anniversary car or not, because lets face it, they are old enough now many of the stock parts could be missing or swaped around from other cars.

All the 280 ZX's manufactured from 07 / 1978 up to 02 / 1981 used the vin # style HS130-xxxxxx or HGS130-xxxxxx.

The "G" indicates a 2+2. Since the AE was never a 2+2 you can not have an authentic AE with a vin of HGS130-xxxxxx.

From 03 / 1981 to 06 / 83 you could have a 280 ZX with a vin # in the format of JN1HZ0....... or JN1CZ0....... so you can not have an AE with this vin format.

The 1980 AE's were not designated a specific block of serial numbers so you can not use that either.

I think some of the options that were on it were not available on any other 1980 model, not until 81. Though I am pulling that outta my a$$ and dont really know. i know that mine was a piece o shitza though, but that want the cars fault.
