Re: For those who worry about supporting terrorism
That is an interesting post. I think I'll do some research and if this is true, I'll definitely keep a mental list in my mind and I will pass it on! I'm sick of dependence on middle eastern oil!
Re: For those who worry about supporting terrorism
In 2004, Ford will be producing a hydrogen fuel cell fuel car for commercial use. It's expected to be available to the public in 2008. I'm sure they're not the only manufacturer who's reached this point. Despite what you may have heard, we are not at the mercy of the middle east. In fact, they're scared to death they'll still be sitting on huge amounts of oil when we switch to an alternative fuel source. The problem for we environmentalists is, GW is afraid of the same thing.
If our government were to annouce a goal and committed the resources towards putting all Americans in hydrogen powered cars by say 2015, the Arabs would be kissing our asses and selling every drop of oil they could.
Which explains why I'm buying a "Z". I firmly believe that the era of high performance gasoline powered cars is coming to an end.
would you buy a hydrogen fuel powerered car if it had 60hp and did 0-60 in 15 seconds? get your facts straight to about the economics of oil cartels, too, the arabs will never kiss our asses.
It's what the market will bear. Soccer moms want big huge "safe" gas-guzzlers, senior citizens want V8's with ridiculous torque, and people like us want fast sports cars. And let's not forget the people who need trucks to tow stuff, and of course semi's and busses.
The fact is, there is no widely-available fuel - including fuel cells - that gives you the efficiency of fossil fuels. Sure, part of this is R&D, but refined gasoline is just plain incredibly efficient to burn and pretty safe comparitively.
Also, one of my coworkers was telling me he read an article where they measured EMF's inside a hybrid electric vehicle for kicks. It was *really* bad. Basically, you may as well sit inside your microwave.
I do believe we'll be seeing an increase in hybrid cars, especially in the sedan market. But I would be surprised if it spread much beyond that. Of course, that's just my opinion.

Re: For those who worry about supporting terrorism .
RENO, Nev. (Reuters) - A clean-cut 21-year-old college student who was the subject of a nationwide manhunt was arrested in Nevada Tuesday and charged with involvement in a string of 18 pipe bombs left in rural mailboxes across the central United States which injured six people.
Police said Luke John Helder -- who was described as possibly armed and dangerous by the FBI -- was arrested after a passing motorist spotted his vehicle on a highway near Lovelock, 50 miles northeast of Reno.
Authorities in Iowa quickly charged him with two criminal counts related to a pipe bomb which exploded there on May 3, injuring a woman.
Necessity is the mother of invention. Until oil becomes so scarce and expensive that we can no longer afford it we will continue to burn gasoline. Feeding the terrorism machine is just an unfortunate and unavoidable by-product. Funny watching the recent ads where the kids smoking pot confess they are funding the terrorists and bomb makers. They should show some guy filling up his car! That wouldn't be too popular I expect. tc
Re: For those who worry about supporting terrorism
i think tt350zr is saying that terrorism comes in all shapes and sizes, ie; timothy mcveigh. besides half the us imported oil comes from sources outside the mideast. venezuela, north sea, and mexico to name a few.
A microwave is a type of EMF. Yes, I was using artistic license to underscore a point.
As for long-term effects, they've already linked the RF's from cellphones to cancer in rats, in a study sponsored by Motorola. Granted, RF's are not power fields, but it's getting clearer EMF's are not harmless.
The point has to do with the funding of a world wide organization of terrorist cells that continue to carry out terrorist activity around the world and hide behind the face of religion to recruit members and gain support. If you don't see the larger issue here than you should open your eyes. I don't care if you don't find it PC, this is to big to worry about that BS.
Re: For those who worry about supporting terrorism
Fish come in all shapes and sizes. I would say terrorism at the present time is nowhere near as diverse as fish. There are certainly exceptions to the rule but if you are betting with the house, it already has a pretty good idea what terrorism looks like and it's not the pipe bomb kid.
Re: For those who worry about supporting terrorism
A more clever reader would've noted that I specifically mentioned my desire for a high-powered gasoline powered car. Always remember that effective use of condescension requires a modicum of literacy. Further, while I may be ignorant of the economics of oil, tell me this. If an economical alternative fuel vehicle were to become available, and the price of gasoline went to say $5 a gallon, would not the majority of Americans opt for the alternative? (be a good boy and look up the definition of "majority") So of course, the Arabs kiss our asses and keep the oil available and cheap. And at the same time we should be investing in alternative fuels.
