Auto-Trans problems 1986 z

yo whats up dis ya boy again my 1986 300zx non-turbo i think needs service done to its transmission a mechanic told me that it needs to be overhauled but its not slipping at all the only time you can tell their might be a problem with the trans is when you first accelerate and the car goes to shift i think into 2nd or 3rd gear the rpm goes a little high as if its hesitating to go into that gear that is the only time this happens, it never happens in any other gear and every single gear is strong, i can still hit the highway and it will go well over 90 miles an hour. also i think its not shifting into its last gear while on the highway you know once your doing like 65 or 70 miles an hour it sounds like it could be another gear, i really dont know, this is my first Nissan 300zx my God Mother just gave me it and she had it since it was brand new she is the original owner it only has 156,000 miles on it all original and stock but hit me back anyone and let me know whats up with this.

Re: Auto-Trans problems 1986 z

"i think into 2nd or 3rd gear the rpm goes a little high as if its hesitating to go into that gear that is the only time this happens"

All I know is I've had this happen on cars before (I think it was called a 2-3 flare) and it resulted in rebuilding the transmission.
Sorry I don't have more info, I'm no expert.
