Hiring process

It's pretty difficult to hire somebody. Right now we are hiring 2 Design Techs at work and this is the first time that I have had to go through the process of weeding through the candidates.

I'll tell you, it's hard when all of them pretty much have the same strengths. The only one that stood out was my friend in LA. The guy has experience in Design, CAD, Computers, etc...... As a matter of fact he's already been offered one of the positions.

This stuff is hard.

Re: Hiring process

Well, I can't really speak to the difficulties you're encountering. But as an unemployed recent college grad, I can assure you it's just as troublesome being on the other side of the hiring equation. The fact that I have largely the same qualifications as thousands of other college grads makes it just as difficult for me to find a job, as it is for you to find the right person to hire. Apparently being able to rebuild z cars is not all that important when combined with my marketing degree. I guess I should have taken up network design as a hobby instead of cars.

Re: Hiring process

Nope no big trouble. Here at NEVP you have to have everything go through HR. In other words you have to justify the justification for justifying the hiring of someone.

By the way you do not want to know how much I make. I only have a AA and I'm the second in command (sort a say) for the Design group. At one time I had Duke, PGE, and PSE all trying to hire me.

If you are looking for an intern ship you might want to look at Nevada Power for the summer. I think in this group alone we have 2 positions. The only thing you will have to get use to is the amount of work that is done here. Basically we build more Substations per year then any other electrical utility. I mainly specialize in Physical Design, but I also do electricals (Wiring, Panel Fabrication, Relaying).
