Manual Transmission

Replacing transmission in my 86 300ZX. Mechanic says yoke has to be replaced too. Problem is drive shaft is attached, he says permenantly and cannot be detached, to the yoke. So in order to replace yoke, I have to replace drive shaft too. Is this true? If not is there some way to separtate the two? Need to know asap thanks
