Fuel Door issue/Solution

I have been driving my Z forever without a fuel Door attached...the spring pin broke off and wouldn't stay closed so I took the complete door off

What I was planing to do was install one of these cam locks drill a hole in the
gas cover then go from there.

has anyone had any experience doing something like that

I used an old mouse trap spring. Cut and modified it to fit in with the hinge for the fuel door. I keeps pressure on the door so when you release the lock it pops out enough. I'll go take a picture after a little while and post it. I wouldn't do the cam style because its just plain ugly to me.

Injection is nice but I like to be blown

Is it worth all that work and making it latch snugly?

The cam style would look a bit odd and probably stand out...maybe with a little paint it would look ok....I just know its a pain the butt to try to fix the standard locking assembly..I will rethink my options
