Lightbulb More HP for Z31

Is there anyway to get more power out of my stock n/a engine in my 1985Z? Anything like an upgraded/performance computer chip or installing a larger throttle body? Car has 32,000 original miles and I don't wish to mess it up.

water meth. convert it to an 85 turbo. 500CC injectors with a cobra MAF. Lots of stuff that will make it not original. Nothing that will make it original.

There are several things you can do to increase horsepower in an NA engine just as with any NA engine but the power gains will not be nearly as significant as if you were modifying a turbocharged engine. there have been several folks on the boards that have done so. You might get more info on this matter over at Z31performance. Don't give in yet.

1986ZXT, How do you like your Eibach/KYB Setup? I am working on doing the exact same suspension setup I believe.

Love it. I initially went with tokico struts and springs. Gave the car a ridiculous looking rake and rode like a broke-down turd wagon. Went with the current set-up and am well pleased. A little stiff but nothing to complain about.

Where is the best place to purchase the bigger injectors and better MAF? Can the pcm manage these upgraded parts without reprogram or different computer? And what about factory fuel pump?
Thanks

Pretty sure once you go to bigger injectors, fuel pump you will have to go to a different from factory engine management, ie, Nistune, etc...

There's no point in bigger injectors unless the engine can use the fuel. Typically, to get more air in to the engine, to mix with the gasoline from the injectors, a different cam profile and/or cylinder head work would be used. The key to modifying engines is to understand the restrictions of the engine you're working on. I doubt that the MAF sensor is much of a restriction. Most people swap the MAFS because it's easy to get to, and the bigger hole is easy to see. Same with throttle bodies. But bigger holes feeding small holes doesn't accomplish much.

The other side of the engine is the exhaust system. Gains have been made there.

This is probably the wrong forum for the VG30 V6 engine though (obviously). Find a forum that talks about increasing flow of the intake system or free-flowing exhaust systems. Modifying the engine management system or replacing it can give gains also just by retuning the engine for power instead of emissions and/or economy.

The only thing that the 1985 PCM really "manages" is cruising on the O2 sensor. Everything else is preprogrammed.

Whatever you do, don't install higher flow-rate injectors and expect anything but poor gas mileage and stinky exhaust. Along with a fried catalytic converter.
