Good Z Mechanics?

Where should I take my '79 280zx to be serviced if I wanted them to do a tune up? Dealer? I assume Joe Shmo wouldn't know anything about a Z.

Next question, where is it told which AC compressor I need? Would there be a part # on the unit? I have available a: 27630-p9000 and 27631-p8201. The first one comes with the clutch attached whereas the second one does not have one. My compressor squeals and grinds so would you say I need a the clutch for it too? Maybe they used certain part # 's certain years?

Thanks

No idea. I do everything myself. A tune-up is easy, just do the plugs, cap/rotor and shoot the timing.

The A/C squeel might be the idler pully. Remove the belt and make sure the idler and the pump rotate easily by hand.

I'm with tkr............

....what's a mechanic?

As far as the compressors are concerned, I can't relate to the numbers you posted, but the compressor / clutch combo is the way to go.....simple bolt in, and remember the existing clutch is 25ish years old.

However - make sure it has the correct mounting - there are two different bolt patterns, check yours first, then compare.

Re: Good Z Mechanics?

Sorry it would just be the last half of the #'s I posted (after the dash) that should be part #s I found available for me to buy.
I live near Minneapolis. Its bearings in the air conditioner pump, I don't know if it needs more to operate, probably a recharge, whats that run $? Just got the car, but I figured I need a pump so I might as well get it while its affordable. Anyone know if the part # can be matched up? Its from OEM surplus.com, they just said "consult an expert to match your application".

As faras a tune up, can do that much, I guess I mean a real tuning up, including setting valve lash, (I got a tiny tick noise).
