Gas cap sealing o-ring

Hey everyone! Been a few years since I've been around but I have a 260z and a 80 280zx, and my dad has a 78 280z and a 82 280zx. Had an oak tree fall on the roof of my 80 about 3 years ago which pretty well rendered it a parts car and I kind of got discouraged for a bit.

Probably 6 months ago I walked past my fathers 82 and smelt gas - looked under it and there was a hole rotted in the tank. Hadn't had time to mess with it but I decided to pull the tank last night. Inside of the tank is extremely rusty. About 2 years ago I put a different sending unit in it and the tank was spotless, so whatever caused it is a fairly recent thing. I'm leaning towards the seal on the gas cap being the culprit, allowing water down the filler neck. After all, it is a 40 y/o piece of rubber.

I am going to pull the tank out of my 80 (fingers crossed that it isn't in bad shape) and put in the 82.

Am I the only one that's wanted to replace this? Anyone know of a source or a part number? I looked around a bit and only found used caps for sale.

Thanks!

Thanks. That would be great for a Z, but it would look a bit goofy on a ZX. I'd like to find a new seal for the factory cap.

Sorry, missed the ZX portion.

The Nissan part number is 17225-P7100 but appears to be discontinued.

This appears to be your best bet for non-used:

Thanks! The one in the picture looks like it just has a typical black rubber o-ring on it. I might pick one up from the parts store and see how that works out before ordering a new cap.
