Not really a ZCar Efficianado, but I need some help working on one.

As the title suggests, I am not much oa Z car enthusiast, but I am currently trying to get a 1970 Datsun 240 Z with the 146 l24 motor running after 26 years for my brother.

I cleaned up the distributer, (New points and condenser) pulled all of the plugs and cleaned and gapped them up as well, (they looked almost brand new) and also (after wrapping my head around the SU carburetors) cleaned up the carburetors as well. I still could not get it to run for more than a few second, and even then it seemed to run on like 2 cylinders.

I eventually found the issue after pulling the valve cover off.

It seems that someone did not set the preload on the rocker arms correctly and two of the rocker arms popped off.

I got all of the pieces, and the cam looks brand new.

My question is if I could reuse the camshaft by just bringing down the damaged lobe, I don't know that much about OHC engines (I'm used to working on OHV pushrod American stuff) but I would re use this cam if it were a pushrod engine. If you say this is totally unusable, would you direct me on where I could find a cheap replacement?

I can't speak for the cam, but what I will say is you should get a new distributor cap, rotor, and spark plug/coil wires - that could be your problem.
