'79 280ZX whining sound in 1st and 2nd gear

Hey all,

Another question. My 280ZX has been whining in 1st and second gear
lately. It's most notable on full decelleration. I figured it was low
on transmission fluid, but whoever put the transmission filler bolt
on last time got it on there too tight and I can't get it loose, even
with a large pipewrench and the car on a lift. But I want to make
sure that the sound wouldn't be anything else before I take it to a
mechanic and possibly have to buy a whole new transmission. Any ideas
on what else could be causing this sound on decelleration in 1st and
2nd gear?

Thanks,
Eric

I think theres something wrong in bearing(s), I had same thing on my Honda Civic and there was only one worn bearing.

Actually Randy, it is a manual. I really appreciate the help. You and FairladyZ-76- are much kinder than Oltmann. I hope more people like yourselves begin reading the zcar.com forum.

Are you sure its the tranny . . .

and not the rear end? Mine has a similar whining/grinding on deceleration and I have been told by a trans shop that it is the rear end. I haven't done anything about it yet. Let me know if you find out something definite! BTW I have a 5spd + 3.90 out of a 82 ZX.
