hi, new to forum

i just joined the forum and was needing some help with exactly on how to convert a non-turbo 280zx to turbo. if anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

also im running a 1980 280zx completely stock. nothing has been done to it.

basically a parts list and step by step instructions would be great.

thanks,

josh

Re: hi, new to forum

Welcome!

First off, we normally point folks toward getting a Nissan factory service manual, or FSM. If you go to my sig, there are two links. Click on Xenon's link, and there are all the ZX manuals in digital format, free for download. Also, go to the Blue's Tech Tips link. I think there is info there on converting. At any rate, you can grab a copy of the 1980 manual, then get one that matches whichever turbo components you eventually end up with.

Many folks would recommend getting an already built turbo engine from a junk yard and installing it, rather than converting a good non-turbo engine.

At the least, you will need a turbo, turbo exhaust manifold and downpipe, the intake plumbing, a turbo AFM, a turbo ECU, a turbo distributor, a turbo wiring harness (all by strong preference from the same year), a blowoff valve, turbo rated injectors, quite a few other things. While you are on Xenon's website, grab a copy of the 1983 manual. It covers both NA and Turbo cars. You can compare both systems while reading it, and get some idea of what you have in store.

Me, I had a chance to buy a nice 83 that was a factory turbo car.

There are lots of members here who have done it, and can give you lots of hints and warnings, and supply sources. If you have not already done so, go over to the HybridZ forum.

Re: hi, new to forum

Type in "turbo swap" in the search function and read for days on what current, and past forum posters had to say about this subject.

1971 240Z series 1 with a 22,000 serial#, all original and 99% rust free.

I no longer have the black bumperless 78 with the ZX drivetrain.
