stuck ignition

Ok so heres what happened, the other half grabs my keys and uses the wrong Z key in the ignition, turns it till it "clicks" and then comes in to tell me. well after taking the ignition off I was able to pry the key out and after working the proper key back in, it still won't turn, I think I probably blocked it by trying to put the pin on the side in to pull the tumblers out, Oh its locked in the run position, any suggestion other then a locksmith? I'm cheap lol

Re: stuck ignition

LOL I wish, was playing with it some more and think the key won't go in all the way. something is blocking it as have tried to force it in and its not doing it.

Re: stuck ignition

I had a similar thing happen (except I was the fool who put the wrong key in and turned it). I have a good friend who is a locksmith who I trade 'services' with (I tune his AH 3000, and he does my lock work) Bottom line on mine was it needed a locksmith. He told me that the wrong key throws internal parts awry, and that it must come apart for repairs. It only took him a few minutes, and he was really taking a fun trip down memory lane when he was working on it... A locksmith's blast from the past, I guess.
My issue may have been slightly different because I could not even extract the key... so maybe your experience will end up better.

Re: stuck ignition

Well, even thow it might be geto, just unscrew the back off the ignition switch and now you can use a screw driver to start it, just take the switch with you for security purposes. Been there, done that. and yes, it was female involved. of course you can fix it when you feel like now.

Re: stuck ignition

Ok, more geto talk. So I decided since I didn't use my rear wiper, had louvers anyways, I rigged it up to the wiper switch. Pull out to turn car on and twist to start it. Never left my keys in the ignition after that and I lived in a safe area also.

Re: stuck ignition

My car came from a scrapyard, and of course, without keys. Being a cheap mofo as well I wired up a flip switch and push button combo to get it started, and added remote power locks to keep it from getting stolen, wish I had've thought of using the rear wiper switch though, that sounds really slick. They say necessity is the mother of invention, but I say it's frugality.

Re: stuck ignition

Hmmmmmm all very good ideas, was hoping to get a step by step on fixing the ignition assembly I have, sounds like will have to take it to a locksmith and get either the old one fixed or a parts car one rekeyed, thanks for all the suggestions
