Side Curtain Bags? Which years/ Models
Posted by: whtfairladyz

Hey guys,
I ve got a question and I was wondering if anyone could educate me on which years and models came with the side-curtain airbags along the A -Pillar?

The main reason I am asking is that I have a buddy looking to add a single A pillar gauge pod on his '06 Base model. I looked at Autometer, and they do not list any gauge pods for anything newer than '04.

I have a feeling that it is just a blanket statement made by Autometer to prevent people from accidentally installing gauge pods on side curtain air bag equipped models.

Any info or links to info would be greatly appreciated!

Side curtain airbags were an option for '03-04 Zs. As for the A-pillar gauges, you should call Autometer directly, as their listings may have been supersceded. BTW- there's other wiring behind the A-pillars of a 350Z, so tell your buddy to check it out carefully!

We checked his car and pulled the A Pillar off. There was not a SRS stamping on the A Pillar.

i think the side airbags come out of the seats anyway, not the a pillar.

Side air bags are located in the seat. Side curtian air bags are in the roof and extend into the A pillar. The wires for the side curtian bags are NOT in the A pillar, they are actually in the rear behind the driver.

Perhaps there are rules about modifying air bag panels, or not enough demand yet?

I think the engineers did a wonderful job with what they had to work with. I've pulled all the air bags from a 06, 350 and installed a complete roll cage. Looks to me as though they were over engineered.

I have an '06 Track and it doesn't have the side curtain bags; they
were an option for the upscale interior, which the Track and base model
don't have.
