Carbon Fiber Air Duct Intake
Posted by: dommer331

Anyone put one of these on their Z?
It is supposed to have a " Ram air" effect with the OEM air box.
The air rushing in from the bumper makes sense and it looks like a direct
hit to the air filter.

Bling effect only. But a lot of people have done it. I like the look.

a friend of mine has it installed on his bumper. The hole in it is relatively small, smaller than it looks in that picture. It won't actually do anything without proper sealed tubing behind it to force air into the intake system.

there's quite a number of people who have the varis/titek duct...I wouldn't put it on my car and I certainly wouldnt expect power gains but it looks alright as long as you have some other mods(a blacked out theme helps).

Disregard some of the rice...but you get the idea

Gang,

None of the "Ram Air" crap works. A buddy of mine (nuke engineer) did some tests several years ago on several different types of intakes and you know what? The OEM was almost still the best for the bucks.

Well depending on the instrumentation and testing method used, I could see being able to draw any different number of conclusions on intake systems. Then again, there IS a reason the manufacturer engineers their intake system the way they do...

Keep in mind that engineers and the "bean counters" are constantly at odds. Every $100 spent over 35,000 cars per year is 3.5 million that has to paid for by someone.
The Z32 died out mostly due to it's ungodly high price - Nissan does not want that to happen with the Z33.

You folks do realize that the upper curved surface of the bumper cover is a low pressure area right? The OEM airbox intake is in a high pressure area. Put your thinking caps on a figure it out for yourselves.

I would imagine it would help alot with heat soak, especially if you have a pop-charger or something.

yeah as I see it, its not really going to benefit the intake system, but may help in getting more cold air under the hood of the car.
