I had a 1970 datsun pickup 26 years ago. I bought it for $400 , put 30,000 miles on it with a few minor repairs (maybe $100) and sold it for $850. I wish I had kept it.It was a good little truck.

It's awesome, buy it. I regret not getting the one that came through the atlanta craigslist a while ago. There's just nothing like bouncing around town in a good little pickup truck, and that one is beautiful.

I still miss my stickshift Ranger, which of course had 1/100th the style of that Datsun, but talk about low-stress driving. No one's getting up in your face, you're not worried about being passed (you will be), so you might as well just park it in the right-hand lane, put your elbow out the window, and preferably use the other hand to pet your dog.

Yeah I am really leaning towards picking it up. The wife and I are moving to Hawaii in Feb and Im thinking that it would be a great Island truck. If I pick it up I will probably have a really nifty rack with wooden planks installed in the vain of the one pictured just much nicer.

I consider a nice, modern, torquey Nissan 4-cylinder a nice touch...something like a SOHC KA or a non-turbo SR20.

1991 Nissan 300ZX Non-Turbo: Mauled, disfigured, and crippled after braving the New England Winters like a hardcore soldier....so I sold it.

Current Plans:
1991 Stanza: Give it a rally setup with a turbo and 3 coats of POR-15 on the exhaust and undercarriage
1978 Datsun 280Z: Arizona Z suspension, and a turbo...oh yeah and paint...

Ok so the purchase is final. I ended up paying 3,800.00 for the truck. It only has 72,000 miles on it and has brand new interior, no rust other than small spot of surface rust nothing serious. What do you guys think ? Good deal ?

The only thing that it needs is the speedo cable replaced as it is broken. The car is in Los Angelas, do any of you know of a Z/Nissan Specialty shop that I can take the truck to while Im there for this, and to give it a look see ? Im going to do my own research as well, but would love some input from someone who already knows...

3800 isn't bad, that thing looks pretty cherry. They are super simple trucks. Not sure which engine they have, but it is very small and an OHV design. You will probably be able to evaluate it largely yourself. As long as the steering is true, no major rust, has a good rearend, oh and the engine runs great, well man you are set! Might have some electrical gremlins, but the wiring will be super easy to figure out. My dad had one of these back in the 60's, took it all the way to Alaska! Check out the pics I posted on Ratsun:

Those pics are awesome. Im actualy bringing mine over to Hawaii. Moving there for a few years to fin up flight school and prob fly there for a while, so perfect island rider. Your right on the money with it being cherry. Although I havent seen it in person yet, all of the pictures and info Ive gotten I will be very surprised if it isnt as it seems. It even has a working vintage 1960 Sears Radio still in the dash. All of the interior was redone a year ago as well including door panels, sun visors, carpet ect. Im pretty stoked and can barely wate to get over and pick her up.

It prob has a l20 in it. Beautiful truck by the way I would love to have one of those. If you dont plan on using it much as a hauler I would do the rear decking in a nice bambo "wood" planks.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing with the wood planks in the bed, maybe even on the wheel wells as small wood benches. Im already talking to a guy about making a nicer rack similar to the one in one of the pics but with nice wood planks running across the top and also being able to use it as a frame for a military style canvas cover.
