Johor Malaysia...Sunny City...

Aside from the multitude of GT-R's prowling across the Causeway in Singapore (as well as Ferraris, et al) the Johor region seems gifted to have a population of old Datsuns. I've seen the Kenmary Wagon, and this past day, probably 20 or 30 Sunnys (Datsun 120 and 130Y's, or 1200's to us in the USA)...

Many sporting newere paint in off colors like purple, bright red, etc... and quite a few with wider wheel tire combos...

But the best was on the way to Paper Wrapped Chicken last evening. I suppose it was in advance to get the car running for the kings birthday holiday (today) I saw a pair of gents wrenching in a garage we passed by. I could see the car nose,so I knew it was an early 1200...

As we passed by, it was obvious they had done an SR20 Swap. Cooool! Gearheads in Johor. I snapped a quick photo as I passed by, and on we went to the chicken.

Today when we went by, the shop was all closed up, so no discussion on what they had done, etc. I guess they were out racing. It's only 3 hours to Sepang F1 Circuit up in Kuala Lumpur from here, and I've seen quite a few later model cars with the Sepang Circuit stickers on them, indicating to me there are track=denizens afoot here.

Now, that $400 a month shop/apartment space has me more and more interested. Maybe I'll chuck it all in, sell everything and buy in Malaysia where I can really be 'King Tony'!

Muahahahahahaha!

How are the roads there? Inner city roads in central China were nice, but the long stretches between cities were pretty pitted.

What do you do? (faster to ask than search thousands of posts)

And how about a post of that pic? :P you can toss it up on www.imgur.com if you dont have a host handy.

Roads?

My my my, we travelled from Kuala Lumpur in a Nissan Sylphy at 160KPH+ heading southbound, and watched the rich kids from Singapore rocketing north in packs of GT-R's!
Apparently the Singapore Crowd heads to the open roads of Malaysia for fun and games. And most roadblocks for 'speed enforcement' are 50 Ringgitt away from being paid 'with discount for showing proper remorse at the transgression' immediately there roadside. About 15$... For doing 185kph in a 120 zone.

Yeah, tough, Huh. I was surprised by the quality of the arterial infrastructure. They are planning pretty well, though in town the streets are generally as you would expect in Third World...or Downtown Chicago/NewYork/Detroit in springtime.

Except no salt and nice little street vendors selling interesting tropical fruits... Being able to pick up a bag of Rambutans to much while stuck in a traffic jam getting onto the arterial roadway is a nice diversion.

It's funny, they teach Math and Science in English here, and require English Proficiency for passing of the High School Boards. WTF? Why don't they do that in AMERICA? Someone got their head screwed on straight somewhere in the world!

British colonial leftovers at their best. On our side, it got diluted west of Sabine Pass.

Speaking of 120y's - My first car was a burnt orange '76 B210 .. I loved that car. Not much to look at, but they handled better than expected. I had the 4-door model but I really wanted the 2-door coupe with that sexy fastback styling ! ;-)

EDIT:
I found this on wikipedia under the B210 section
Nissan Sunny

In most markets, the B210 line featured as the only engine option a re-designed A12 engine. However, in the South African market they also featured L14 and L16 engine options, as well as a special edition of B210 coupé badged as a 140Z and a 160Z. The 140Z and 160Z featured twin SU carburetors and a 5-speed transmission.
Interesting ... a 140Z and 160Z ? with dual SUs and a 5-speed ? Cool car to show up to a Z club meet with!

Yeah, in the JDM many of the Sunny models were available either with the A-Series or the L-Series Engines. So the SSS Style L-Engine Intake or the GX A-Series Dual SU's could be had with both configurations.

This thread brings back good memories of My pops '72' b210,I went everywhere in it.
It was mustard yellow,4speed,cracked dash and house carpet replacing the factory unit.I still tell ya it never took hardly any fuel :)......also I drifted it in a carpark(secret being Gumnuts on the ground) hehehehehe the good old days.

cville.....I prefer the 2door sedan or the station wagon with big rims but the fastback do look good.

Spent the last week in Rayong City, on the way back to Bangkok this afternoon.

Rayong is about 30-40Km up the beach from Pattaya.

Very nice climate. I choose the beer in the evening by which hostess is serving. No need having your beer poured by an ugly women when so many beauties are smiling to serve you...LOL!
