Found another old Z car toy tonight
Posted by: possum25

Going through stuff in my parents attic, I found a blue "Fairlady Z" car with decals that read "Chief Police Department Reading Ohio" on the doors and a "Special Police" decal on the hood. There is a black button in the roof, but it does not work. Made in Hong Kong 1977. Don't have my camera here, or I would take a pic for you to see.

I wonder how many other Z cars are buried up there. I found a model 240Z car I built when I was around 12 last year. Maybe Zcar addiction is genetic, I just did not succumb to the addiction until I was around 35. And we all know there is no cure for it.....

Sweet Possum,

Earlier this summer my 2 year old daughter was playing with some matchbox cars at the in-laws house. I saw that she was playing with an old zcar and I said to myself no way.

It says Zylmex Fairlady underneath it. It has the chrome headlight buckets and tail light panel, like i have seen some japanese z's have. Has a 280z sticker on the hood and zzzz sticker on the doors. The doors open also.

How do I remember this, because I borrowed it from her when she went to bed that night and it's been on my desk since then. Haaaa.

Ah man,

I wish I had my models from my childhood. I actually won some trophies for them. Check out this site.

This will give the old memory lobe a kick. Nice post, thanks.

Guess I didn't know they had a list of oldies like that..I can remember a few.
Things haven't changed much..(I won't be a painter anytime soon either)
Some I had came to me prematurely, one in particular was a Rolls Royce model;
high End but I was way too young...I think the end product became a roller
with no engine. The L'il Yeller School Bus ended up looking like all the kids
had licked the windows, but as a kid was still impressed with its rebellious nature (normal). I got a bit better and tried a "Hubley"(sp)...If you've had a chance and know if they're in business still, they're metal/screw assy ..(I think I skipped an etching primer tho') I didn't see a Comet Caliente listed but I remember one with Speedy Gonzales decals for it.

JML77280Z,

That site brings back so many memories! Very cool! Thanks for posting that link.

I still have MOST of the models I built as a kid. Only a couple were blown up with firecrackers. 8)

Cool story! I did the same thing several years ago when my parents began going through stuff in the garage to sell their house and it was about a year after I first got my Z (I am also about your age). My parents told me that I was inseprable with "red-car" when I was little:

I had something as a kid that was rather unique. My mom wanted to wallpaper my bedroom, so she took me to the store to pick something out that I liked. I found a pattern that had a bunch of different cars on it. In the foreground, it had 1920's era cars in color and it had black and white modern cars in the background. Each car was about 10-12" long. Well, the reason I had to have the wallpaper was because one of the B&W cars was a 260Z! I can't remember exactly how old I was, but I'm guessing I was about 8-10 years old which would have been between 1974 and 1976. I fell in love with the Z in the early 70's and bought my first one in 1984.

Gearhead,

Man that was good for a laugh. I used to blow mine up too or set them on fire with the glue!!! AAaahhh those were the days! Do you remember when those models cost $1.69. I had to mow two lawns to get that!
