Hey everybody, just looking for some one that might know what The spec is for a 2002 mazda protege 5 compresion test.

I am going to test it tonight, and probably test it wet as well.
thanks, Justin

All you need to know is the compression ratio of the engine. Multiply the compression ratio by 14 psi and that is roughly the pressure reading you should see. That's assuming you're roughly 1000-2000 ft above sea level, which the majority of America is.

hey I didn't think of that, thanks.

so then it is 9:1 so that would give me 126.

so this is what I got
#1 150 psi
#2 143 psi
#3 138 psi
#4 129 psi

I did not bother doing them all again wet, as it started to rain, and I was in the drive way. We will see what that tells me.

Almost more important than the individual readings is the consistency between all the cylinders. It looks like you have a significant drop off from #1 to #4, so that may be of some concern.

ya, I know what you mean, I am a little worried w/t those readings, I will post what readings I get when I test it all again, with a little oil in each cylinder, hopefully pin point head or bottom end prob.

My DD is a Protege 5. It is the best (non Z) I've ever had. Mine certainly may be an isolated case, but my experience shows that if you can get the compression issues sorted out, it'll be tough as nails. I've taken mine all over the place (including a little off-roading!) to rack up 101,000 trouble free miles.

Perform a leakdown test
