Well that depends on a lot of factors. Everything is 25 years old, vacuum lines, weatherstripping, brake lines, etc. Connectors are probably corroded, wiring dried out. And then there is the rust issue.

It's a nice car, but I think that 19k is too much IMO.

We'll find out what it's worth as soon as someone buys it...

I'd want to drive it so collector status would be gone. I'd be tempted to give 10 for an S30 refurbished with the mods that I want.

There was a 240Z that was part of the late 90s Nissan restoration program on ebay just a couple of weeks ago. That went for about $16,XXX, I thought it would fetch more. I'd guess this one may top out around high $9k, but you don't know until the last second of bidding.

Damn, that is a clean ZXT. Black and Gold with all the right stuff. It will get close to $15k, but $19k is too much for a 48,000 mile car.

It's certainly "THE" ZX to own in my book. I'd go $10 to $12k if I was in the market. Turbo, Black and 5-speed. The solitary knock I see is the barrel-key alarm switch stuck through the fender.

I had one of those key things on a fender of a parts car. It was not for an alarm though, but rather acted as a power cut-off switch to the coil.

That is nostalgia right there! That adds another $1000 if it still works...
One of my best friends in high school had the exact same car. His dad was a doctor and passed it down when he got his Porsche Turbo. 16 with a black/gold 280ZXT.

i agree here with you guys so far......19k is too much.......id say fair value is 12-15k imo one more thing i noticed is if its all original why does the radiator look like a aftrermarket and the hose clamp for the upper part of the radiator. i was thinking it was hit in the front and redone years ago and stored there after.

i guess it could have had a top rad hose go bad.....but really a car that clean and he didnt go oem hose clamp. oh and the tires are a recent addition and have what he says 75 % left on them........did he drive the other 25%/...lol what do ya guys think

i think its been hit....not sure but maybe...........if you look at the pic of the fender emblem.......theres a hole to the right of it. ( this fender is for the 81 turbo model with the push in emblem ) if im guessing right id say inbetween the radiator not looking stock and the rad hose without the original hose clamp and the fender hole, id be willing to bet this car has been hit a long time ago and fixed well.....anyone agree with me on this one??????

I'm going to call the guy to see if I could take a look at it this week, once the weather clears up a bit. I'll let you guys know how it looks in person.

That's pretty frickin sweet. Although total BS about "extremely rare digital dash and suede embroidered" — I think all the '83 turbos had that. If I had the $$ I'd be pretty tempted. They were really beautiful cars new, especially the black and tans.

I’m a bit of a zxt expert, so let me chime in.....

That car, absolutely mint, with under 40k miles would be worth $20k+ all day....however, it is not what I am describing. Those are the museum quality gems.

This car however is a very nice, 50k mile car and is worth around $15.5k. Maybe a little more.

The knocks I see:

The "alarm" is not factory by any means, and it required a hole in your fender

Those are not factory floor mats

Cadmium plating is worn, this is the big difference from a 30k mile museum piece stored in a climate controlled garage and a 50k mile car like we are talking about.

Obviously not original tires, but I would have stuck with OEM Potenzas

In the picture with the "alarm" key, what is the hole on the other side of the emblem, not original

Suede looks very good, but remember, one drop of anything on it will take your 20 year old "280zx"'s right off

and the 5-speed, everyone looooves the 5-speed....In my opinion (and I have driven many 280zxt's)....this car begs to be an auto, so much so that they didn’t even offer a 5-speed when it came out.....you can find many posts and opinions on this, but mine is in a 280zxt, the 5-speed makes the car very sloppy. It’s like taking a very well engineered car and dumping a mustang transmission in it (actually, wait, that's what they did)

Hope that helps

Interesting take. Both my '82 and '83 Turbos were autos and they were silky smooth, fast rides. Murphy's auto law is that no matter which tranny the car has, someone will say, "Boy I have the money to buy it right now, if only it had the __________ tranny."

One correction. They didn't put a 5-speed in the original 1981 model 280ZX turbo because there were concerns the stock 5-speed wouldn't be able to handle the additional torque from the turbo motor. They contracted Borg Warner to provide "stronger" T5's for the '82/'83 model year. Most of us in the "280ZX" community have now come to the conclusion that the Non-World Class (NWC) T5's weren't all that strong either and probably not enough stronger than the NA 5-speed to justify a swap.

I personally believe the short gearing in the ZXT T5's does inhibit it's performance and prefer the NA gearing for turbo cars and the T5's for NA cars! I think Nissan had the right tranny's, they just put them in the wrong models!

I believe the "Datsun" floor mats were still available from the dealer parts counter into 1983, but I can't be certain.

Although the alarm may not be "factory" it may have been "dealer installed". We'd have to see the final sales receipt to be sure.

The center finish panel on the back between the tail lights is an after market add on.

The digital dash and auto-climate control are an UNDESIRABLE options at this point given their propensity for failure and improbability of finding replacement parts.

I'm not sure there's that much difference in the collect ability of a 40k mile car and a 50k mile car. If we were talking about a sub 10k mile car, then I think you'll see some "collector" value approaching the "Buy Now" price, but not this car.

I would say $10k is about right for this car.
