Car's acting wierd....

For the past few days, this would happen on and off:

Sometimes, when I would start the car and start moving, my exhaust note would sound like a gurgle then eventually as I increase the revs, the tone goes back to normal. Then after a few miles of driving, it would go back to normal when going from first gear. Then when I would let of the gas to shift or let go of the gas altogether, I would hear a "BOOM" coming from the exhaust, sort of like a misfire sound from a misfiring system. (I'm NA, which is the wierd part). Could it be from the engine or the muffler? Also when the gurgling sound would happen, the power distribution seems...choppy. Like when I step on the gas instead of a "vrrrrooooommmmm" it sounds like..."vr-vr-vr-vrooo-vrroooommm." My friend had a similar issue with his Daily drive CRX and it turned out to be an electrical issue regarding the distributor cap. If it is an electric issue, how would it be since we don't have distributor caps?

Sounds like a misfire. Could be a corroded injector or PTU connection.

Carbon ignition? Is that caused by what I'm guessing as carbon buildup somehwere in the exhaust?

Weird, BTW (not wierd).

My guess: cylinder is not firing, the raw fuel is working down into the exhaust and then exploding (backfire) when it gets enough oxygen. When you let off the gas and coast, the oxygen from the tailpipe might be seeping back into the area with the fuel, and bang, it explodes.

Ususally with a dead cylinder, you would feel a loss of power, right? I don't feel a loss of power when I get on the gas, just seems like fuel delivery is being interrupted. Maybe ethanol wears out fuel injectors faster than we thought?

I don't know that a person could tell the difference between nonfiring due to lack of fuel and nonfiring due to lack of spark. If it feels interrupted, then it probably is. Have you checked the coil packs?
