Squeaky noise coming from belts only when clutch pedal is engaged.

Ok first thing first. I have a different TT motor in my car. I had two extras laying in my garage. So i took a chance with one. I swapped over ALL the parts from my own engine (the bad one) T-belt water pump, injectors valve covers...everything.

Anyways, when I push the clutch pedal in, I get a squealing noise from the belt area (those are new as well) It almost sounds as if its coming from the water pump pulley or fan. But it only does it when the pedal is pushed in. I dont even have to have the pedal pushed in all the way, itll squeal even if i keep the clutch pedal pushed in enough not to engage the clutch. Any thoughts?

Also I am driving to chicago this weekend to pick up a fully built (Forged pistons .30 over, Rods, 5 angle valve job ect) That will be going into my TT.

Are you sure it is the belts. Why would that happen. Loss of tranny drag freeing up some power to sqeel the belts?

This kind of sounds like what my car was doing. But I thought it was due to a bad throwout bearing. It has since stopped. Maybe I have the same issue you do. I jsut jumped the gun thinking it was my TOB.

Have you confirmed that the sound is a belt, ie. have someone else step on the clutch while you are under the hood.

If you swear that the sound comes from the front and only comes on when you depress the clutch, then here's a long shot. When you depress the clutch do you see ANY forward/aft movement of the crank pulley? If so, then your crankshaft thrust bearing is shot.

If the sound could be coming more from the back of the engine, then it sounds more like the clutch throw-out bearing is bad.

You may want to tighten up the belts a little to see if it goes away but be careful to not over tighten them.

Its definately coming from the Front. It sounds like a belt squeal for sure. All the belts are new and also tight. Also, since I have no friends, I used something heavy just to put pressure onto the pedal (it wasnt pressed in) just simply had pressure on the pedal. The noise started up as i said before. It sounds like its coming from the water pump pulley. I dont think that its bent, b/c it came off my other motor. As for movement on the crank pulley, I cant test that yet b/c i dont have any friends around right now. How/why would a thrust bearing go bad? Is there any other way to check that?

Why not remove one belt at a time to isolate the issue?

Man you change engines more than I change socks!

LOL.....yea I do. But now im really good at it! Yea.. thats a good idea. Itll have to be a few days now though, b/c My Z has to sit under my car port while i work on someone elses TT. What kind of noise does the fan clutch make if its going out?

I don't think the fan clutch makes a noise when its fails/failing...the water pumps just bleeds all over the place

(update) I drove about 10 miles. Well When i came to a stop the squeal was happening even without pressing in the clutch. I shut the car off at the gas station, turned it back on, and no squeal from there all the way home, and still no squeal. What is going on?

If it's not an accessory belt, then it might be a T-belt idler or tensioner bearing. If you disconnect all the accessory belts and you still hear it, then don't drive it.

JT...what if it went away? Should i not worry unless it comes back? If/when It comes back i will disconnect the accessory belts, but lets say that it is the T belt idler or tensioner, if its not making noise is it fine?

Hard to say if it's fine or not without hearing what it was. Still seems strange that it only happened when the clutch pedal was pushed in. Sometimes a vacuum leak can make a high-pitched squeal, but that wouldn't have come from the front of the engine.

Usually once something shows a sign like that, it will be back. A video clip would be VERY helpful WHEN it happens again.

Kandy, how long does it take you to swap an engine now that you are practiced at it?

Zaddict, I was talking to cmcniel.
z32dood, If i were to just swap out the engines themselves, without having to switch over parts. I would say it takes me under 5hrs.But It took me off and on over a weekend to do mine, I had to switch over everything. Inlcuding turbos, injectors valve covers.
