Hey Guys:

I have a white non-turbo Z and last season every time I drove the car I had a light depositing of some black/grayish residue all over the rear bumper cover.

No codes, car runs fine - doesn't smoke and the spark plugs look pretty normal.

Anyone have an idea of what's going on? A while back someone posted on tt.net regarding their car and the response was this is a sign of running rich. Only real change I made early last season was to replace the old O2 sensors with new ones when I did the upper plenum pull and injector replacement. The O2 diagnostic shows no issues either?

Not sure what to make of this???

PS - I had to go for emissions testing in December and readings were similiar to the last time the car was tested - so at least the exhaust stream seems to be unchanged???

Pretty common and mostly noticeable on white cars. I know since I have two white TTs. Other colors just don't show it as dramatically. If your ECU is reprogrammed then it's been set to run a little richer at the highest load settings.

JT - thx, my ECU is original. Can you explain the underlying cause if everything is pretty much stock (spec) on the car? My Z is a non-turbo.

FYI - Didn't really have this issue until recently (or if I did - it was barely noticeable on the bumper cover)...

Leaking lower injector o-rings could be the cause. If you've ever replaced your injectors chances are new lowers never came with the new injectors (at least mine didn't)

It could just be leaking past the old rubber.

Hard starting would be the most noticable indication of this.
