All:

Did a write-up on the GM connectors -- here's the tt.net link:

Easier to just point everyone there than to re-edit for this forum...enjoy!!!

Not to worry - I didn't re-use those screws.

None of that stuff was put back in the car in that condition (yikes -- too embarrassing!!!). Those were the "posed" pictures for the write-up which sadly took me a year to finally post!!!

Here's shots of the finished rail (which was painted hi-temp black)...

PS - My plan is to do a little write-up on the entire upper plenum project, paint amd finishes used, etc - so stay tuned (should be here by say 03/09??? - LOL)...

Great stuff jzack, is that a cut on your fuel line in the last pic?

Yep - car runs better than way!!! LOL...

Waited until I had the rails installed before putting on the new hose. Wanted to make sure everything was sized right, clamp screws positioned for easy access once the plenum was on, etc.

PS - Actually used the cut/attached old hosing for something while installing the new injectors in my basement shop. Hose was a nice way to adapt a fitting for a pressure guage and compressor to check for pinched o-ring leaks...

Wow, that is a cool idea. I wonder if it could be made to look nice and have a perminent FPG right in front of the throttle cover plate? Talk about simple plumbing and a quick reference when troubleshooting.

jzack: I must commend you on an excellent writeup, and proper use of heat-shrink tubing. I have not seen electrical tape used underneath heat-shrink that often, as the tubing binds really well to rough solder joints when it is fully shrunk, but I might give that a try next time.

It wasn't clear to me from the write-up: does this give you the ability to install GM-injectors on the Z, which are cheaper? I imagine if you install GM connectors on the wiring harness, and then use GM injectors, it should just work with no mods right? (assuming the injectors plug in the same, which maybe they do not). I have little knowlege of injectors, so please forgive any ignorance on my part.

Mr Z32dOOd - thx. The tape underneath is a quick and dirtly solution to sealing the joint -- the more elegant way is using adhesive lined heat shrink. That's designed as a simple, one step solution.

Sorry --- Can't use the GM type injectors on the Z - plumbing for the fuel entry works differently.

Again, I commend you on the write up. And I don't want to throw any cold water, but did you go with the worm clamps on final install or just used for fitment? Seem to have read on here they may loosen up.

Thx for the concern about the clamps - but not to worry. They are aircraft grade stamped band clamps, designed for hi vibration applications. Look closely at the bands and you'll see the slots are cut at an angle (not straight like most worm gear clamps) -- that's part of the design to resist loosening. They are also stamped, not cut -- so the clamp doesn't eat into the hosing...

I've used these for a number of years on my engine -- very satisfied. Have some on the heater hoses and the PS lines too. Someone once posted Volvo (or maybe Saab??) uses these as well.

They can be purchased from Wicks Aircraft Supply (online) -- search for ABA Sure Seal Clamps.
