370Z's blind spot....
Posted by: zresearcher
Date: April 02, 2009 05:36PM

Is it me, or does the 370Z have a blind spot to hide a peterbuilt pulling a trailer home ? I know people have to learn to use their side mirrors, but when I own one, it will have a rear view camera connected either to my navigation or a LCD panel in an easy to view location.

Yeah, the blind spot is definitely there. The quarter window is just for show because there's no way you're going to see out of it. I guess I'll have to limber up the neck to see around it. I'll get used to it though. Only 2 1/2 months and my car will be here.

As I've said for the 350Z when the subject comes up, spot mirrors are the only way to go. I have the small rectangular ones and never have to worry or try to "look" for a car in my blind spot.

This is supposedly one of the reasons that Nissan made the side mirrors larger than originally intended...

If you position your mirrors right, you'll never have a blind spot. I found that it took me awhile to find the right position, because I actually point the side mirrors far out to the sides. Took me awhile to get used to it, but now I can see a car pan from my left mirror, to the center, to the right perfectly. Took me awhile to train myself, but I'm now confident with it and I knopw if I can't see it in my mirror, I'm not going to hit it when I change lanes. Simple enough.

You can almost always get your side mirrors and rearview mirror positioned so that they have a little overlap and cover your whole field of vision up to your peripheral vision...thus NO blind spot. This usually requires positioning the side view mirrors MUCH farther out than most people are comfortable with. Most people like to have a little bit of the side of their own car visible in the side mirrors, which has them positioned too far inward. You can already see most of that field of view with the rearview mirror, so push those side views out and cover your "blind spot" completely!

^^
exactly.
Once you get used to your mirrors pointed so far out, you'll never go back. I hate it when people always want to see the back corner of your car. You aren't going to hit yourself, you don't need to see your own car in your side mirrors.

I have the mirrors set to see just the very corner of the fender flares and it pretty much covers everything. I'll probably pull the panoramic mirror from my tow vehicle to see if that helps any more, but I think proper positioning of the factory mirrors is the key.

The 370Z's side mirrors are substantially bigger than the 350Z for just that reason. The new head restraints meet current safety regs and help prevent neck injuries, but block that rear quarter vision.

The 370Z has rear quarters? I don't believe you, I've never seen them! ;)

Just add spot mirrors, that helps a great deal. I added the cool blue colored spot mirrors to mine and they work great for the blind spots.

You are allowed to use trademarks to refer to the original source product when that is the proper name (fair use of the mark, re Lanham Act S43).

This is the way to go as I said earlier. The spot mirrors cover your blind spot and the OEM mirror covers everything else.

I, for one, HATE spot mirrors. I've learned to use my side mirrors and rear view mirror very well driving Z32's over the years.
