Gang,
Let me add this to the mix of poor design (Maybe). Back in the muscle car days Chevrolet built a Corvette (and some Chevelles) that had a 427 with 3 Carbs on it. It was rated at 435 HP. Now all of us back then thought that was one bad boy
and it had three deuces (3 two barrel Carbs) on it. WOW. Chevrolet sold the hell out of these guys. Now the guys in the know stood off to the side and just laughed at us. But they wouldn't tell us why they were laughing. Chevrolet also built a single 4 barrel 427 called the L88 that had a advertised Horsepower of 430 HP. Well who wanted a wimpy single four motor when they could have a 3X2 motor. What Chevrolet did was lie to everyone so the insurance people back then wouldn't have a clue about what this motor really did in the HP department.... Actual SAE Gross Horsepower of this monster was 550 to 570. So the point that I am trying to make is that sometimes Engineers and the OEM for what ever the reason don't always tell everything. They let you find it out on your own.................
